first impressions - first days and a plastic camera

When I arrived in Berlin for the first time in 2000, a simple plastic camera from the former DDR seemed an apt instrument in which to capture my first impressions of a city I know nothing of. I had no illusions that what I encountered those first few weeks would remain, but I would have little idea to the degree Berlin was to change in such a short period. Make your own assessment and remember to add in a good dose of the smell of coal fires. (andy)
